UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK ETANOL RUMPUT LAUT COKELAT (Sargassum cristaefolium) TERHADAP Staphylococcus epidermidis
ABSTRAK
Angka resistensi klindamisin terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis yang
tinggi (52,5%) menyebabkan perlu dikembangkan alternatif pengobatan acne
menggunakan uji one-way ANOVA. Hasil skrining fitokimia menunjukkan
ekstrak etanol Sargassum cristaefolium mengandung alkaloid, tanin, flavonoid,
saponin, dan steroid. Diameter zona hambat yang terbentuk pada konsentrasi 60,
80, dan 100 % b/v berturut-turut adalah 1,96 ?0,71; 2,63 ?0,74 dan 9,46 ?1,60
mm dengan aktivitas antibakteri lemah hingga sedang. Ekstrak etanol Sargassum
cristaefolium memiliki potensi sebagai antibakteri dalam menghambat
pertumbuhan Staphylococcus epidermidis, namun tidak lebih baik dibandingkan
Doksisiklin 2% (p< 0.05).

ABSTRACT
High resistance rate (52.5%) of clindamycin to Staphylococcus
epidermidis causes the need to develop alternatives acne vulgaris treatment. One
of alternatives is brown seaweeds (Sargassum cristaefolium). This study aimed to
compare the potency of Sargassum cristaefolium ethanol extract towards
Staphylococcus epidermidis with standard antibiotics. Sargassum cristaefolium
was macerated with ethanol 96%. Antibacterial activity test was carried out on
ethanol extract of Sargassum cristaefolium at various concentrations (60, 80, and
100% w/v) against Staphylococcus epidermidis using the well-method. Diameter
of inhibition zone was measured and the activity of each treatment was
statistically compared by one-way ANOVA test. Phytochemical screening
showed that Sargassum cristaefolium contained alkaloid, tannin, flavonoid,
saponin, and steroid. Diameters of inhibition zone on 60, 80 and 100 % w/v
concentrations 1.96 ?0.71; 2.63 ?0.74 and 9.46 ? 1.60 mm respectively. The
diameters of inhibition zone were classified as weak to medium antibacterial
activity. Ethanol extract of Sargassum cristaefolium has potential as an
antibacterial in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis but it was
not better than 2% Doxycycline (p
