PENENTUAN KADAR BESI (Fe) AIR SUMUR DI KECAMATAN PRINGGABAYA MENGGUNAKAN METODE SPEKTROFOTOMETRI SERAPAN ATOM (SSA)

ABSTRACT
Ferrous metal (Fe) in drinking water is harmful to health and can cause
weakening of the body, organ damage, and poisoning. Several well waters in
Pringgabaya District are indicated to contain excess iron (Fe) which is
characterized by changes in color, odor and taste. The purpose of this study was to
determine the iron metal (Fe) content of well water in Pringgabaya District using
Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). Sampling of well water was
carried out in three villages, namely Kampung Pelita, East Pohgading and Dasan
Baru villages using purposive sampling technique. Well water samples from the
three locations were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of the
qualitative analysis showed that the well water sample in Kampung Pelita Village
was brownish white, odorless, and tasted sour, pH 7.56 with a temperature of
30oC. Sample in East Pohgading Village was yellowish brown, smelled of animal
waste, tasted sour, with a pH of 7, 71 with a temperature of 28oC. At Dasan Baru
it is blackish in color, smells of rotten garbage, tastes sour, pH 6.35 and a
temperature of 30oC. The results of the qualitative test of positive samples
containing iron were evidenced by the formation of a blood red color after
reacting with 0,2 N potassium thiocyanate (KSCN) reagent. Meanwhile, the
results of quantitative analysis using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS)
obtained iron levels in Kampung Pelita Village of 9,11 mg/L , East Pohgading
7,84 mg/L and Dasan Baru 6,27 mg/L. Based on the results obtained, the well
water sample in Pringgabaya District exceeds the standard set by the Decree of the
Minister of the Republic of Indonesia No. 492 of 2010 which is 0.3 mg/L.
