Refractive errors are among the leading causes of visual impairment in school-age
children and may negatively impact academic achievement and quality of life. The
World Health Organization (WHO) has set the global target of achieving effective
Refractive Error Coverage (eREC) by 2030; however, data from Indonesia remain
scarce. This study aimed to determine the eREC value among elementary school
students in the working area of Dasan Agung Community Health Center, Mataram.
A cross-sectional study with a cluster random sampling design was conducted on
105 sixth-grade students aged 11?13 years from three elementary schools. Visual
acuity was assessed using a logMAR chart, followed by pinhole testing and
subjective refraction by an ophthalmologist. Descriptive analysis was applied. The
results showed an eREC value of 0%, with no students categorized as Met Need,
while 6 students (5.71%) were classified as Unmet Need and 1 student (0.95%) as
Undermet Need. The prevalence of refractive errors was 11.67%, comprising 7
students with myopia and 2 students with astigmatism, with no cases of
hypermetropia. Risk factors identified included limited access to eye examinations
(77.1% had never been examined), low awareness regarding the importance of
vision (25.7%), and social stigma associated with wearing glasses (3.85%). In
conclusion, refractive error correction coverage among elementary school students
in Dasan Agung remains critically low despite a measurable prevalence of
refractive errors. These findings underscore the urgent need for school-based eye
health programs, parent and student education, and stigma reduction to improve
visual health outcomes in children.

hidup. World Health Organization (WHO) menargetkan pencapaian effective
kelainan refraksi cukup tinggi.
upaya mengurangi stigma penggunaan kacamata sejak dini.
