Background: The Covid-19 pandemic has hit various countries in the world
including Indonesia and has had a considerable impact on the education sector. The
Large-Scale Social Restrictions Policy (PSBB) also has an impact on the process of
teaching and learning activities at Unram Faculty of Medicine which requires its
implementation online for all classes at the Faculty of Medicine, University of
Mataram. A related study shows that 62% of pre-clinical medical students
experience stress and first-year medical students are more susceptible to stress than
seniors. This study aims to describe the stress-causing factors of medical students in
the first year of the pre-clinical stage at the University of Mataram.
Methods: This study used a cross-sectional research method with a total sample of
115. The instrument used was the Medical Student Stressor Questionnaire. The
primary data obtained were analyzed univariately using the Ms. software. Excel.
Results: Based on age, the majority of stress-causing factors were found in students
in the 20-year-old group (52 people/45.21%). Based on gender, women (52
people/82.54%) experienced more stress-causing factors, while based on domicile,
the dominant stress-causing factors were students who lived with their parents (69
people/60%). Based on the MSSQ questionnaire, the stressor domain that dominates
the stress-causing factors is academic stressors (62 people/53.91%), while the lowest
stress-causing factors are interpersonal and intrapersonal stressors (23 people/20%).
Conclusion: The causes of severe and very severe stress based on student
perceptions based on age, gender and domicile, are highest in the domain of
academic stressors and lowest in intrapersonal and interpersonal stressors and social
stressors. The causes of severe and very severe stress are based on students'
perceptions of the 6 domain stressors, the highest being the academic stressor
domain and the lowest being the intrapersonal and interpersonal stressor domains.
